Counseling Services

Counseling Center Mission

The Counseling Center is dedicated to providing counseling services that are supportive and inclusive of each student’s unique identities. Rosemont College Counseling Center serves as a place for all students to feel safe and respected. We are committed to advocating for the rights of everyone in the Rosemont College community, including students of all multicultural and faith backgrounds, students who identify as LGBTQIA+, and students living with physical and cognitive differences.

Rosemont College Counseling Center focuses on student health from a holistic perspective with the goal of improving wellness in all dimensions of a student’s life. Counselors support students to enhance functioning in social, emotional, interpersonal, and relational contexts. All counseling services utilize evidence-based counseling techniques and are tailored to the needs of each student.

At the Counseling Center, we believe that the student is the expert on themself. Counselors collaborate with students to discuss the counseling process and to identify areas for growth. Through counseling, students may achieve enhanced awareness, self-efficacy, communication, problem solving, adaptive coping, and interpersonal skills.

Individual Counseling

During individual counseling, a student will meet one-on-one with a counselor to discuss their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Depending on the student’s goals, the counselor will work collaboratively with the student to increase awareness and perspective, process emotions, and practice skills to effectively cope with challenges. Individual sessions last approximately forty-five minutes and are scheduled around student availability and Counseling Center hours. Individual counseling sessions are confidential.

Group Counseling

During group counseling, students will meet in small groups with one or more counselors to discuss a particular topic and/or to learn skills to improve quality of life. Group counseling is a great way for students to connect with peers in a safe, confidential, and inclusive environment. Students who are interested in participating in a group counseling experience are encouraged to contact the Counseling Center for more information.

Drug and Alcohol Counseling

The Counseling Center provides assessment and counseling for those living with substance use, abuse, or addiction. When needed, referrals to outside treatment providers are offered. The Center also provides required drug and alcohol assessment and psychoeducation to students who violate the drug and alcohol policy on campus. If you are interested in learning more about drug and alcohol counseling services at Rosemont College Counseling Center, please visit the Drug and Alcohol Resources page.

Community Events

The Counseling Center holds four community events each week during the academic year. Community events take place from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Hirsch Community Center lobby on Monday-Thursday. Events are designed to engage the Rosemont College community to learn about mental wellness, practice healthy habits, and embrace and value each member of our community. Examples of previous community events include sleep hygiene, distracted driving, self-care, mindfulness meditation, stress management, alcohol awareness, healthy study habits, LGBTQIA+ awareness, coping with loneliness, self-care strategies, and many more.
