Bachelor of Arts in Biology

Discover the Natural World Through Biology

Biology majors explore living systems from the ecosystem to the molecular level, and everything in between. You’ll analyze, interpret and evaluate information relative to current research in peer-reviewed journals, and summarize your findings. You’ll also prepare and present presentations on your research. At Rosemont, you’ll be a part of a close-knit educational community led by instructors who are experts in the field, who will not only teach you in class but will also provide opportunities to conduct research, present your findings, and maybe even win an award!

In addition to conducting research, you’ll have other opportunities to apply your learning in exciting internships that prepare you for a successful career. In fact, 95% of our students who applied to medical or osteopathic school received acceptance.

As a Biology student, you may choose between three tracks of study.

Do you want to be a teacher? If you are considering a career in science education, Rosemont will prepare you for teacher certification for grades 7-12. In addition to your required classes for your degree, you will take a specific set of Education courses that are designed to prepare you for teacher certification. If you choose this path, advisors from each discipline will work together to support you and ensure you’re meeting all the criteria to become a science teacher.

Why Study Biology at Rosemont?

Rosemont believes in combining hands-on experience with coursework in your field to deepen your understanding of the content and best prepare you for the job market. All biology students do an internship or conduct research with a professor before they graduate to ensure that you’ve practiced research techniques. You will also learn to present papers and lead discussion on current biological topics as part of your Senior Seminar- crucial skills for any science career.

At Rosemont we believe that no matter what discipline you study, the ability to communicate effectively is a cornerstone of success. That’s why you’ll have learning experiences focused on a foundation in scientific writing and oral communication that will support your success in any STEM profession. Rosemont prepares all its students to build a career based on sound leadership, ethics, and communication that combine with strong skills in your field of study.

Clubs for Biology Majors

Rosemont has over 20 clubs and organizations for students to choose from. Two that are popular with Biology majors are Rosegrow and the Pre-Health Club. Rosegrow is the Environmental Action Coalition on campus. Their activities include hosting speakers, heading sustainability projects on campus and even some environmental research work.

The Pre-Health Club is devoted to developing a community of students interested in careers in healthcare. You’ll work with your classmates from across the science disciplines, giving you the chance to learn with like-minded peers. The club provides students with access to practice key skills such as CPR and suturing, observe medical procedures, support health causes, and learn from speakers who are experts in the field of medicine.

Take Your Education Even Further

If you’re planning to pursue an advanced degree after graduation, Rosemont has several partnerships with local universities for you to consider.
