Raven Peer Leaders

The Raven Peer Leader Program at Rosemont College is designed to proactively build community at Rosemont by actualizing students’ potentials through peer mentoring. The program provides an opportunity for members of the first-year class to build community at Rosemont by making use of the mentors knowledge and support.

The Raven Peer Leader Program is Rosemont College’s Orientation staff program. which provides current upperclassmen training and mentorship education to assist in the transition process for all incoming students. Students within the program are called Raven Peer Leaders (RPLs) and are the official orientation (SOAR) leaders of the campus. The application process consists of an essay prompt, the submission of references, an online application, and an interview.

To be a part of staff means you are a part of something much bigger than you and your own experience here at Rosemont. RPLs serve as resources for new students and family members, who are making the transition from their previous environment to the diverse academic, intellectual, and social culture of Rosemont College. As an RPL, you are the first impression of the campus community for new students as well as a staple support system during their first year on campus.

Q: Can I be an RPL as a Commuter or Transfer Student?

A: YES! We encourage all students to apply for the program, including students who are not traditional or residential students. The college admits commuters and transfers each semester and it is important to provide representation for those students throughout their first semesters here!

Q: Can I be an RPL while also being a Resident Assistant (RA)?

A: No. Unfortunately, the Raven Peer Leader and Resident Assistant positions cannot be held simultaneously as a number of events, including mandatory summer training, occur at the same time throughout the year. Students are encouraged to apply for both positions; however, they cannot accept both roles.

Q: Who selects the staff?

A: The RPL Committee will select a group of mature and dedicated undergraduate leaders to assist with implementing the orientation program. The committee is a subsection of the Orientation Committee who assists in the overall planning of the new student program. The committees are made up of various administrators from departments across campus including Admissions, Athletics, Residence Life, and Student Life – including Leadership & Engagement

Q: What are some of the benefits of becoming an RPL?

A: Compensation: Each member of staff will receive a stipend at the conclusion of their responsibilities of their contract in October. In addition to the stipend, staff will be provided housing for the duration of any training that may occur on and off campus as well as meals. Meals on campus are compensated through the opening of the Dining Hall in August.

RPL’s are provided apparel for Training and Orientation events, as well as other miscellaneous gifts. Members of Staff will also be eligible for the exclusive Leadership Enrichment Course designed just for Raven peer Leaders. This course is hosted every fall semester and is a 1-Credit course. All RPLs are required to take the course unless otherwise approved.

On top of the visible benefits, being a Raven Peer Leader provides you the opportunity to develop leadership skills and build career experience.
