Studio Art and Design Programs
Transform Your Creativity into a Career
Does your ideal job involve being creative? Or are you passionate about enriching your life and community through art? Take your talent to the next level by joining Rosemont’s Studio Art and Design program, where you’ll develop the expertise you need to become a versatile creative professional with a valuable skill set.
Because there are many ways to turn your passion for visual arts into a thriving career, our program offers two degrees—a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Fine Arts with options to concentrate in graphic design, studio art, art therapy preparation, or art teacher certification.
While all Studio Art and Design majors complete foundational courses in visual fundamentals, drawing, writing, and art history, classes in your chosen concentration will guide you in mastering the skills that lead to success in your future field.
Multiple Paths to Reach Your Unique Potential
Our program offers multiple ways to shape your artistic identity with a variety of concentrations.
PK-12 Art Education Certification (BA): If you’re excited about instilling a lifelong love of learning AND art in the next generation, then becoming an art teacher can be a fulfilling career. To achieve this, you will be trained as both an artist and educator, gaining in-depth knowledge of the fine arts and classroom-management tools you’ll need to effectively teach—and inspire—your students. Due to the number of credits required to complete this program, students typically pair it with a BA.
Art Therapy Preparation (BFA): Art therapy is a specialized area of mental health that uses artmaking and the creative process to treat individuals with developmental, psychological, medical, or social impairments. Classes in fine arts, developmental and abnormal psychology, and counseling are a strong steppingstone to the graduate-level study required to enter this rewarding field.
Graphic Design (BFA): Students in this track will build a portfolio to enter the job market as a graphic designer. Students will gain a working knowledge of the industry’s most widely used software and applications as well as skills that are vital to success in this dynamic industry, including learning the Adobe Creative Suite, courses in graphic and web design, animation, digital photography, typography, and more.
Studio Art (BFA): Being a successful artist takes more than talent. A thorough understanding of various media adds value to your professional brand, and this concentration will introduce you to a wide range of artistic methods—from drawing and painting to printmaking and graphic and web design. In the process, you’ll learn how to critically evaluate your work as well as others’, and how to take advantage of the many career possibilities available in the arts.
Please note: Those who wish to elevate their degree to a BFA may apply to the program by submitting a portfolio at the start of their sophomore year at Rosemont. If you’re not sure which degree path is right for you, our faculty will assist you in making the choice that best suits your interests.
