Best Wishes to our Retired Faculty
Three of Rosemont’s esteemed professors have retired, and many faculty members, staff, former students and friends gathered to celebrate their decades of dedication to the Rosemont community at a retirement celebration last week.
We wish all the best to Dr. Tina Bizzarro, who retired as full professor in the Department of History of Art and served as Discipline Coordinator and Major and Minor Advisor for History of Art for over 30 years; Dr. Richard Leiby, who has taught History at Rosemont since 1988 and served as an integral member of the Petaltones, Rosemont’s beloved musical group comprised of faculty, staff, and students; and Patricia Nugent, who has been part of our community for 55 years as an associate professor in the Studio Art & Design program, as well as the Director of the Rosemont College Art Gallery—now named the Patricia M. Nugent Gallery.
These beloved professors have made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students, and we are truly grateful to each of them for their years of scholarship, mentorship, and friendship.

Softball Team Completes Another Record-Breaking Season!
For the first time in Rosemont history, the softball team went 13-3 in conference play and 17-15 in the overall season. This was also the first season the team was seeded second and advanced to the conference championship. In addition, the team was ranked 19th in the nation for stolen base attempts.
“I could not be more proud!! said Coach Bill Relyea. “These young women have demonstrated resilience and discipline while forging a new high-performing culture for themselves, holding one another accountable and supporting each other simultaneously through every challenge. And, most importantly, as a result they have begun to establish a legacy of competitiveness for Rosemont College Softball that is exhilarating to behold and share with one another.”
Congratulations to all the members of the team on this successful season!

Alumni Video Series
As part of our Centennial year of celebration, we spoke with nine accomplished and diverse alumni who shared their personal stories of how Rosemont College’s mission and values have shaped their chosen path in life. Please join us in listening to their reflections about Rosemont’s spirit, how they felt seen and heard in a learning community where professors fostered independent thinking and personal growth, and what it has meant to be part of a caring and supportive community imbued with respect for each person while building friendships that have endured long after graduation.
Note that the following interviews were recorded via Zoom during the Centennial year.
Brianne Wetzel '05
Brianne Wetzel strives to have the Holy Child partnership school in Washington, DC that she leads to be the same joyful learning community she experienced at Rosemont - one reflective of the charism of Cornelia Connelly and to bring forth every child’s unique gifts in a safe and joyful space. She credits being “seen and heard” to Rosemont’s small-class environment and professors who believed in each student’s ability to achieve great things. And she feels a responsibility to carry forward the principles of social justice, equity, and fairness that were nurtured at Rosemont.

May Centennial Reflection
“From the moment Rosemont launched its Centennial celebration, it was appropriately frothed with optimism and promise of things to come. For those who have clicked on these monthly reflections, this focus on meeting the wants of the age with compassion was an attempt to punctuate the celebration with touches of more sober topics. Not to squelch the festive side of things, but to season it, because it’s always best to ground our hopes and dreams in reality.”
Sr. Ann Marie Durst, former Rosemont president, discusses in her final reflection the need for hope amid tragedy.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month – a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Asian/Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the U.S. on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 of which the majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

Faculty and Staff, Please Complete the Library Facilities Survey
As you may know, staff at the library have been hard at work on shifting collections, clearing out old storage, and revitalizing various interior spaces. When the current phase of this work is completed this summer, we will have several areas within the Library ready to be put to new uses. To plan for our next steps, we need your help evaluating the Library's current facilities and gathering feedback on what you might like to see in the future.
Please take a few minutes this week to complete the following survey:

Summer Hours
In recognition of and appreciation for the hard work and dedication shown by the staff of Rosemont College over the past year, we will once again institute the practice of “Summer Fridays” during Summer 2022. Effective with the week beginning Monday, June 6th, and continuing through the week ending Friday, August 5th, the College will observe the following office hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (30 minutes lunch). Offices will be closed on Friday with some exceptions. This schedule does not apply to the week beginning July 3rd, which we resume regular hours (9 am to 5 pm with 1 hour for lunch) observed Tuesday through Friday. Some departments will be unable to take advantage of summer hours because of other obligations and schedules. In those cases, department VPs and their senior leaders must approve alternate schedules to ensure office coverage on Fridays. We will resume our regular business hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, August 8th.
Thanks for reading Campus Connections. I’ll be back with more in June.
In the meantime, be in touch with me at president@rosemont.edu about what you might like to see included in the next Campus Connections.
