Jamya Johnson ’24 is a political science major and president of Rosemont’s Black Student
Union. Read on to learn about her goals for the future, including making a positive
impact on the campus community.
What does the POWER of small mean to you?
A: To me, the POWER of small means that I’m part of a community of lifelong learners who accept me for who I am. At Rosemont, I can walk into a room, and everybody knows my name. As president of Black Student Union, I can use that power to elevate our community.
How did you discover Rosemont?
A: I grew up in North Philadelphia, so I’d heard about it. I also had a friend who went here. She told me that the College felt like family to her, and I knew it would be like a family for me, too.
Q: What is your focus as the president of Black Student Union?
A: My main focus as president is to advocate for Black students and promote diverse, courageous, and safe spaces on campus. I believe that Rosemont has given me the courage to be who I am, and I hope these spaces will encourage others to do the same.
Q: What are your career aspirations after graduation?
A: When I finish my degree, I will be going to law school to specialize in civil rights law to advocate for minority communities in Philadelphia.
